Best Holiday Mini Session Outfits

It can be stressful getting your outfits together for a photo session; whether you’re doing it solo or in a group (i.e. family, couple, etc).

Let me break it down for you with tips, tricks, and inspiration!

Things to Avoid

Let’s start it off with things to avoid, and build from there!

  1. Neon: Neon is very loud and challenging to pair with other colors, causing a clashing, overwhelming visual effect in photos. Plus, there are only certain skin tones that look good with such bright colors.
  2. Multiple Patterns: For instance: wearing zebra stripes with polka dots, or a color block pattern with florals. It can be so busy that it takes away from you, the subject, and overwhelms the photo overall.
  3. No Coordination: If you’re taking any form of group photos, make sure that the outfit’s colors complement each other.
  4. Not Considering Your Background/Location: When you’re picking your outfit(s), think about the colors of your background. You don’t want to wear a bunch of green if you’re in a field. Always feel free to ask your photographer if you don’t know first hand. We’re here to help!

You Can Pick A Color Palette

Plaid, Burgundy, & Tan

Neutrals & Earth Tones

Neutrals can give a more cozy and laidback feel, while still being classy and adding cohesiveness. Earth Tones add beautiful colors while still being muted.

Christmas Colors

Matching colors

Pick the same color(s) for everyone to sport! It can be all one color, 2 colors with everyone varying which is on the top and bottom, or 2 colors with all wearing the same ones on the top & bottom.

Christmas Props or Themes

This is a merry and easy way to make the photos unique to you. The possibilities are nearly endless!

Final Tips

Ask yourself this, “What do I want to tell the world with my pictures?” This should help you to narrow things down and make a decision.

The photos should reflect you and also suit the purpose for taking them in the first place; family photos, Christmas cards, or to mark a special occasion. Whatever the reason, make it wholly a reflection of yourself, something that you’re comfortable & confident in, and most importantly, have fun!
